Camp Tzofim

Voted the "Best Day Camp in the East Bay" by the J. Magazine, Camp Tzofim encourages children to forge friendships nurtured by the camp experience. We provide an exciting, fun program where children entering kindergarten through grade ten make new discoveries and learn about the world around them in a safe environment. We endeavor to create a community that is cooperative, supportive and positive.

Campers have the opportunity to take swimming lessons and participate in trips and overnights. Exploring nature, making friendships, engaging in the arts, sports, and social growth are activities and skills that we emphasize during our summer program. We also provide campers with the opportunity to explore concepts and themes in Jewish culture and history; on Fridays, all of Camp Tzofim comes together in an interactive program to celebrate Shabbat.

Location

Camp Tzofim's main site is at 4500 Redwood Road in Oakland, below Merritt Junior College. Camp Tzofim has its own park sites at Joaquin Miller and Roberts Parks. We are pleased to be a part of the East Bay Regional Park District's Day Camp Outreach Program, which has provided us with great opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of our local parks. The camp also runs field trips and excursions to many other Bay Area locations.

For our north East Bay campers, we provide a shuttle bus that will transport kids from the JCC in Berkeley to our Redwood Heights location and back.

Camp Director

For those of you who have attended Camp Tzofim in the past, you probably know Daryl Grace. Daryl Grace will be returning as our 2010 Camp Director and is a long time member of our Olam Yeladim (Oakland after school program) and Camp Tzofim family. Daryl worked at the Oakland after school program for many years and has spent the last 14 years working at Camp Tzofim in a variety of positions. Since 2005, Daryl has worked as the Physical Education teacher and basketball coach at Oakland Hebrew Day School. He also has coached both the boys and girls basketball teams at Piedmont High School. Daryl first became acquainted with the JCC in Oakland as a camper and student, and his depth of experience and knowledge in the running of Camp Tzofim is a welcome and helpful addition.
