Wednesday, July 28 - Be The Match Registry Drive
Registry Drive in Honor of Elissa, age 26, grew up in suburban Chicago and lives in Washington, DC. Soon after graduating from college, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Her battle with cancer has been a roller coaster of highs and lows, marked by frustratingly short periods of remission. Recently, Elissa fulfilled a life-long dream when she learned of her acceptance to rabbinical school. Just two days later, her dreams were shattered by the news that her cancer had returned yet again. As the granddaughter of four Holocaust survivors, Elissa has little family to test for a match and needs a genetically-matched donor to receive her life-saving transplant. Elissa and her family are asking you to join the Be The Match Registry of committed potential donors that stand ready to give patients like Elissa a second chance at life. Registration is easy! A consent form is filled out and a swab of the cheeks is taken. Your tissue type is added to the Registry until your 61st birthday. You could be the one. You could be the match.
Eligibility Guidelines: Be between the ages of 18 -60, be a willing to donate, and meet health guidelines.

1:00-8:00pm, FREE

Sunday, August 15 - SIMCHA DANCE JAM
Join Jewish dance specialist and choreographer, Bruce Bierman, for a unique monthly workshop that aims to free the Jewish dancer within. We will begin with guided poses and stretches inspired by the angular shapes of the Hebrew letters. Then, participants will explore the expressive movements and dramatic gestures behind the four main Jewish dance genres: Yemenite, Hasidic, Klezmer, and Israeli. Finally, we will fit the moves of the ancestors to the grooves of our own imaginations, as we jam together to create spontaneous new dances with a treasure box of Jewish dances with a treasure box of Jewish dance vocabulary. All levels of experience welcome.

3:00-5:00pm, $10-$15 sliding scale
