Monday, March 8 - "For Memory Is Life Itself": Discussion with Ben Stern
Born in Warsaw, Ben Stern survived many of the horrors of WWII, including the Warsaw Ghetto and Auschwitz.
Ben arrived in America in May 1946, and married another survivor, with whom he raised their three children.
In 1977, he led the fight to stop the Nazis from marching in his backyard in Skokie, IL. Ben will be discussing
his experience. As Ben has said, "for memory is life itself and a world that abandons its past is a world
without a future." Cosponsored by the Holocaust Center of Northern California.
Thursday, March 18 - Jon Carroll In Conversation with Bill Schechner
For twenty-five years, Jon Carroll has been writing a column for the San Francisco Chronicle.
Funny, wise, moderate to liberal in politics, elegant in print, occasionally obsessing on his cats Bucket
and Archie, Monday through Friday, Jon's there. How does he do it? How many columns does he have in the
drawer should nothing come? Emmy-winning newscaster Bill Schechner will take you into the head of the man
who makes this very hard job look so easy that you might think you could do it (trust us, you couldn't).
Sunday, April 25 - REPORTER Screening with Special Guest Ruth Messinger
An incredible opportunity to see a new documentary featuring Nicholas Kristof, two-time Pulitzer
Prize winning New York Times columnist and chronicler of the devastation in Darfur. We
are extremely pleased and honored to have American Jewish World Service President Ruth Messinger
presenting the film and leading a Q&A after the screening.
